On May 31, 2019, I, Officer Tim Van Nostrand, was on duty and assigned to uniform patrol at Assembly Row. At 1:47pm, I was contacted by XXXX, loss prevention associate for Home Depot. XXXX informed me he was observing a Hispanic male in the rear of the store, remove a tool from a box and conceal it in his backpack. XXXX also believed this same suspect had stolen multiple times before.
I positioned myself in the parking lot, and XXXX and I were able to apprehend the suspect after he exited the contractor exit without attempting to purchase the tool. I recognized the suspect from previous theft incidents at Home Depot in which he resisted management attempting to stop him.
The suspect identified himself verbally as Ernesto Bonilla (xxxx). I radioed dispatch, but there was no return on a query of that information. The value of the drill stolen today is $349.00. I placed Bonilla under arrest for larceny under $1,200. Additional charges will be sought for the two confirmed previous shoplifting incidents.
Officer Michael Cleary transported Bonilla to the station where he was booked by Lt. W. Rymill.
Respectfully submitted,
Officer Tim Van Nostrand
