Powder House Blvd. Traffic Safety Plan & Bike Lanes Community Meeting, 5/22

Join us for a discussion on our progress implementing the Powder House Boulevard Traffic Safety Plan and for the beginning of a community conversation about bike lane options on the boulevard. The meeting will be on Wed., May 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the West Somerville Neighborhood School, 177 Powder House Blvd. We’ll cover the Safety Plan from 6:30 to ~7:15 p.m. The bike lane discussion will run from ~7:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Single lane bike lanes had been planned for the fall of 2019, but the idea of a two-lane, two-way bike path has also been suggested. Either option would be part of a “road diet,” an effective approach to slowing traffic and increasing safety for all road users by narrowing the travel lanes. The two-lane, two-way plan would require eliminating parking on some sections of Powder House Blvd. More information is available at somervillema.gov/powderhouseboulevard. For those who cannot attend, a video of the meeting will be posted afterward at youtube.com/somervilleCityTV, and comments and questions may be sent to: transportation@somervillema.gov.
