Over the past summer months, staff of the East Cambridge Savings Bank assisted the Somerville Lions Club and offered a big helping hand by collecting over 500 pairs of eyeglasses for charity.

The staff offered and placed Lions Club Eyeglass Donation boxes within their bank branches during this past summer to help collect eyeglasses for the needy and visual impaired.

This past Tuesday night, East Cambridge Savings Bank Vice President/Community Outreach Officer Laura Berg along with bank staffers Patricia A. Rizzo and Patricia McGovern delivered ten large tote bags containing over 500 pairs of donated eyeglasses from the collection boxes to the Somerville Lions Club.

The Lions Club Eyeglass Collection Drive helps people who cannot afford to purchase prescription eyeglasses to receive them free of charge at no cost.

After eyeglasses are collected, they are then sent out to be inspected and then catalogued according to prescription strength before they are distributed to people who need them in the community.

Vice President Laura Berg also vowed to continue their support by holding an annual eye glass collection. The next East Cambridge Savings Bank eyeglass collection campaign is scheduled for June 2019.

The Lions Club Eyeglass Drive is about changing lives, one pair at a time.

In just about any home, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person’s life.

Lions Recycle for Sight:

That’s why we started the Lions Recycle for Sight program. Everyone can help.

Throughout the year, Lions, Leos and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs).

LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact.

Eyeglass Recycling – How You Can Help

Donate glasses and change someone’s life:

Imagine if you could help a child read. An adult succeed in his job. A senior maintain her independence. And provide a community with more opportunities to grow and thrive.

Everyday, our recycled eyeglass programs do all of this and more.

Here’s how you can donate glasses and help.

You can drop off your usable eyewear at Lions-sponsored collection boxes in your community.
