Somerville Remembering Ruth Hazel Maloney

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Ruth Hazel Maloney on her passing.

Ruth Hazel Maloney will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

Ruth Hazel Maloney, 80 years old (born May 15, 1937 – died April 26, 2018)

Formerly of Somerville (for many years a resident of Bonair Street)

Daughter of late William M. Corey and Lillian A. (Montgomery) Corey.

Ruth was a nurse for many years at Somerville Hospital before working as a phone operator at the New England Telephone Company in Boston, where she moved her way up to graphic designer before retiring; however, once retired, she stayed active in the Somerville community by knitting for all occasions and being a poll worker during elections. She also worked as phone operator at night at Somerville Hospital, since retirement was not keeping her active enough. Ruth loved life, loved her friends and her family. She was tenacious and feisty; however, dementia slowed her down the last 10 years of her life. Ruth loved her grandchildren very much and helped raise Joseph, Kimberly and Mindy.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Joseph Patrick Maloney, her daughter Lillian Palmer, her granddaughter Kimberly Palmer, her brothers Richard and David Corey, sisters Mary (Corey) Webber and Susan Corey.

She is survived by her brothers Ernest Corey and wife Linda, Charles and Robert Corey, daughter Nancy (Maloney) Lilley and her husband Raymond, grandchildren Joseph Humphries, Mindy Palmer and Willie Palmer. Ruth also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
