Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Savannah NICHOLS (Shoplifting)at Dollar Tree

On Tuesday, July 4, 2017, I, Officer Pavao, was assigned to East 2. I was dispatched, along with Officer Van Nostrand (E1) to 14 McGrath Hwy (Dollar Tree) for a report of a Robbery. While enroute dispatch advised us that the suspects got into a vehicle MA reg XXXXX and took off out of the parking lot onto Medford Street, they also informed us that it was not a robbery but a shoplifting. While traveling on Medford Street to Dollar Tree I spotted the vehicle traveling towards me. I activated my blue lights, made a U-turn, and stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of 15 Lambert Street. Detective Pasqualino (D6), Officer Fusco, Officer Difava and Officer McCarey responded as well. I returned to the Dollar Tree along with Det. Pasqualino (D6).

Upon our arrival at the Dollar Tree we were met by the reporting party, YYYYY (Dollar Tree Employee). YYYYY stated that he observed three individuals walk out of the store with reusable baskets filled with boxes of candy and glow sticks. Mr. Harris was able to show us the video footage of them walking out of the store with the unpaid items. I contacted Officer Van Nostrand who was on scene with the vehicle and asked him if he could see if there were any reusable baskets in the vehicle. He told me that he could see three of them and they were filled with candy. I returned to the parking lot where the vehicle was stopped and was able to identified the individuals that were in the video. I asked them for identification and they were unable to provide me with any documentation.

I then placed a male and a female under arrest who were later identified as Juvenile ZZZZZ and Savannah Nicholas for Shoplifting by Asportation (ch266/s30a) and Conspiracy (ch274/s7) and requested Unit #200 operated by Officer Rivera to transport the two individuals back to Somerville Police Station to be booked in the usual manner by the shift commander Lt. Digregorio.

The total amount was $139.24 worth of merchandise, a photo of the receipt will be attached to the report.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Brian Pavao #318
