Yet another appeals court has ruled against the Trump travel ban, this time because it’s nonsensical. According to the panel: “The Order does not tie these nationals in any way to terrorist organizations within the six designated countries. It does not identify these nationals as contributors to active conflict or as those responsible for insecure country conditions. It does not provide any link between an individual’s nationality and their propensity to commit terrorism or their inherent dangerousness.”

It’s also obsolete. The supposed purpose of the travel ban was to give the Trump administration 90 days to fix what it claimed were flaws with current vetting practices. That 90 days is long past and those policies should be in place. At this point, the only purpose of this exercise is for Trump to claim a victory from what has been the jaws of defeat.
