Meet this week’s “Special Person of the Week Jay McKenzie

Jay is a long time Somerville resident who grew up and was schooled in Somerville then later graduated from Minuteman Tech where he studied plumbing and heating. 
Jay’s dad Stu McKenzie is the city’s official plumber at the Somerville Department of Public Works and by whom Jay learned the knowledge of his plumbing trade. 
Jay is also very proud to be a Somerville firefighter, a son of one of Somerville’s first female firefighter, Cynthia Snow Murphy, from whom he picked up that valuable lifesaving career that he cherishes everyday. where he spends his days protecting the citizens of Somerville.  

He was recently honored by the Somerville Fire Department for his quick thinking while off duty when he kicked in a door of a burning vessel looking for any sings of people that may have been onboard during the early morning blaze a few years back. 

Jay recently married his true love, Sam and the couple when not donating their time to charitable event, they enjoy spending lots of time on their own new boat together exploring new horizons.
