Real Life Somerville Police Stories:UDIT (Unlicensed Operation of MV, Unregistered MV, Uninsured MV & Boston Warrant))

On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, I, Sergeant Michael Capasso was on duty for the Somerville Police as a Patrol Supervisor. At approximately 7:50 PM, I randomly queried Massachusetts Registration 3EW249 via the CJISWEB on the cruiser’s laptop and discovered the vehicle to have a revoked registration due to a lack of insurance. The vehicle was registered to Corporation / Company: ” Udit NFN,” despite having passenger plates. Based on this infraction, I conducted a motor vehicle stop in front of 261 Somerville Ave, a public way within the City of Somerville.

Upon approaching the passenger side of the vehicle, the operator rolled down his passenger window causing a strong odor of fresh marijuana to exit the inner compartment. I identified the operator, NFN (No First Name) Udit, via a Massachusetts Driver’s License. Mr. Udit stated that the vehicle was his and that he had no registration for it. Upon asking Mr. Udit how much marijuana he had in the vehicle, he reached in his right pants pocket and removed a bag containing approximately 6 grams of marijuana. I queried Mr. Udit’s driver’s license and discovered it to be expired/nonrenewable as of 03/31/2016. Mr. Udit also had an active warrant for his arrest.

Mr. Udit was placed under arrest and issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation # R7094034. Mr. Udit was also issued a City of Somerville Municipal Ordinance Citation (#14392) for possession of marijuana. The vehicle was towed from the scene and both registration plates were confiscated.

Respectfully submitted,

Sergeant Michael Capasso #285
