Obituary

José Botelho Paulo, Jr. passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at his home in Tewksbury, at the age of 90.

Born and raised in San Miguel, Azores Portugal he was the son of the late Silvana de Aguiar Carvalho and Jose Botelho Paulo. He served in the Portuguese Army for several years before immigrating to the United States. A hard worker, Jose was a foreman and custom packaging specialist with the Wetmore Corp of Wilmington where he worked for over 40 years. He was a long time Somerville resident prior to moving to Tewksbury. He enjoyed working in his garden, tending to his grape vines and playing with his beloved guinea pig.

The beloved husband of the late Maria Ameila (Soares) Paulo, he was the loving father of Paulo Botelho and his wife Valerie of Melrose and Grace Poirier and her husband Paul of Tewksbury.

Cherished grandfather of Lana, Patrick, Hailey, Nathan and Madison.

Dear brother of Silvana DaSilva and her husband Duarte, Maria Jose Botelho Paulo all of San Miguel, Azores Portugal and the late Maria Carriero and her late husband Ernesto, Manuel Botelho Paulo and Antonio Botelho Paulo.

He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Friday morning, May 24th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, May 23rd from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Services will conclude with burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
