Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and Somerville’s Public Space and Urban Forestry division (PSUF) invite community members to attend a virtual presentation of the draft Somerville Pollinator Action Plan (SPAP) on Monday, June 10, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Need a refresh on this project? Due to habitat loss and pesticide use, pollinator populations are declining in New England and worldwide. In response, the mayor-appointed Somerville Pollinator Action Plan Advisory Committee partnered with consultant, Offshoots, Inc., to develop an Action Plan to identify spatial and behavioral interventions that create the best habitat for pollinators and wildlife in the city.
The June 10 presentation kicks off a summer event series aimed at promoting habitat and biodiversity in the city. This includes the release of the finalized plan, a volunteer event to create a pollinator demonstration garden, arbor day festivities, and a “pollinator alley” at Somerville Art Council’s ArtBeat.
