Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Suspended License Arrest

On June 19, 2015, I was in full uniform and assigned to Somerville marked unit K9, working the 4pm-midnight shift with K9 Jax.

While parked at the intersection of Grand Union Blvd and Revolution Dr., both public ways within the city of Somerville, I randomly queried the status of MA reg 778XP2, a green Volkswagon Passat. The vehicle registration came back REVOKED due to lack of insurance. I activated my cruisers blue lights and siren, stopping the vehicle on Grand Union Blvd. Ofc Remigio (T6) was passing by and stopped to assist with the car stop. I approached the operator and requested his license and registration. The operator informed me that he didn’t have a license. I asked if he didn’t have it on his person or didn’t have a license to operate a motor vehicle? He stated that his license may be suspended. The operator identified himself as Antwaun McCollin. I queried McCollins info through CJIS on my portable laptop. McCollins license status came back REVOKED. At that time I placed McCollin under arrest for operating after revocation/suspension (90/23). He was transported to the station in Somerville marked unit 200. He was booked in the usual manner by Lt. Sheehan. McCollins BOP shows a guilty finding for operating after suspension (08/26/2013) and an open case for operating after suspension subsequent offense (03/11/2015). I issued McCollin MA Criminal citation R6069869 for Operating After Suspension Subsequent Offense. I issued the owner/passenger MA uniform citation R6069868 for allowing an unregistered motor vehicle to be operated upon a public way. The vehicle was towed by Pats tow and I confiscated two plates to be returned to the registry.

Respectfully submitted,

Ofc Timothy Sullivan B260
