On Thursday, October 23rd from 4 to 7pm at 268 Powderhouse Boulevard in West Somerville and on Saturday, October 25th from 1 to 4pm at 530
Mystic Ave. in East Somerville, the Somerville Mobile Farmer’s Market will be hosting Mobile Market Parties. Each of these will feature:
-The Mobile Market, where you can buy fresh organic produce at the lowest prices in town
-Live music from your favorite local bands
-Children’s activities, from face-painting to book giveaways and the MUSCRAT Art Bus at the Mystic Ave. location
-A food mapping activity so we can collectively map food resources in our city
-An urban growing activity so you can get your hands dirty harvesting vegetables as well as learning how to grow your own and compost at home
-A recipe swap
-And a raffle featuring awesome prizes such as Whole Foods gift cards and YUM restaurant discount cards (the more activities you take part in, the more tickets you can get!)
All are welcome, there will be music and fun and all full-price purchases help sustain our EBT discount program which brings fresh, local produce to low-income residents.
We have been promoting through a Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/807975859264598), tweeting with the hashtag #SomervilleFoodDay14, and tagging @ShapeUpSam (us), @FoodDay2014 (the national page), and @FoodDayMA (the state page).
The Somerville Food Security Coalition will also be hosting an event called Come To The Table on October 23rd at the Winter Hill Innovation School. Please see the attached flyers for more information on this event.
