It is that time of year, when the streets of East Cambridge will come alive for the 88th Annual Italian Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian THIS WEEKEND (September 6 & 7). The feast will be celebrated on Warren Street in East Cambridge. As always, there will be a food festival, parades, amusement rides, “Frozen” movie characters Elsa and Anna, carnival games, antique cars, street performers, Red Sox World Series Trophies, and live entertainment throughout the weekend. There will also be a special healing service on September 6th.
The feast headliners are Grammy Award Winners, “TAVARES”! They will be singing their many hits including, “Don’t Take Away the Music”, “More Than A Woman”, and “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel”. Like all Feast entertainment, this is a free show. Show up early and bring your chairs.
This year’s entertainment schedule has something for everyone. Performers include local oldies band “The Reminisants”, “Ambrosiani”, Sinatra Show by Chris Jason, and Boston’s own “SeaBreeze” featuring Stephen Savio.
In addition, this year’s Feast has food options for every taste as a “food festival” will be created on Warren Street. Food vendors include: Volare Restaurant of Revere, East Side Grille of East Cambridge, Bucci’s of Everett, Captain’s Fried Calamari and Cherry Stones, the Cannoli Girl, Atwoods Tavern, Buddy’s Dipped Fruits, Coca-Cola Beverages, Noonan’s Ice Cream and Concessions, Carpenito Concessions and traditional feast fare such as sausages, steak tips, tripe, arancini, kabobs, cotton candy, fried dough, popcorn, slush, steak & cheese, fries, and everyone’s favorite – fried oreo cookies!
Don’t forget to join us for feast favorite – the Annual Cannoli Eating Contest. This is a popular addition to our feast! Come join in the contest or cheer on your favorite competitor Saturday night.
A special feature will be the memorable, Operation Home Ties – “Faces of Remembrance” Float that will be on display throughout the Feast. This float memorializes all of our fallen heroes since 9/11/01. Each person who has perished was drawn on this float by Gina Johnson. Gina will be with the float both days, and this moving exhibit is not to be missed.
There will also be a Feast Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter Ugilietto at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Cambridge Street at 9:30am on Sunday. At 1:00pm that same day there will be a grand procession through the streets of East Cambridge and East Somerville with marching bands, floats, trolleys and the Saints. The parade will arrive back on Warren Street at 7:00pm for a large celebration. There will also be four radio stations at the feast and activities throughout this fun filled weekend. This is a great event for all ages. Play a game, watch a parade, try some great food, listen to music, go on a ride and have a great time! Feast hours are 2:00pm to 11:00pm on Saturday, September 6th and 1:00pm to 10:00pm on Sunday, September 7th.
