1783 – “The Pennsylvania Evening Post” became the first published newspaper in the U.S.

1806 – In Logan County, Kentucky, future president Andrew Jackson participated in a duel, killing Charles Dickinson, a lawyer.

1848 – William Young patented the ice cream freezer.

1854 – The territories of Nebraska and Kansas were established.
