Events for Somerville Council on Aging week of 1/20-24, as well as highlights of upcoming events:



Some exciting events in the coming weeks:
Thursday, January 23rd: Somerville Arts Council grant recipient Nancy Hall Brooks will exhibit a series of portraits of local older adults at the Ralph and

Jenny Center, 9 New Washington Street. The show is entitled “Reflections: Portraits of seniors in images and words.” It honors nine different unique and lively Somerville individuals who participate regularly in communal activities at the COA’s centers.

Thursday, February 6th: Diabetes Patient Educates Peers on Taking Control of the Disease, Holland Street Center, 167 Holland Street. Patient Kirk Kenyon knows first-hand the challenges and obstacles to maintaining control of diabetes. Come hear his practical and inspiration presentation at 10 a.m. After the presentation, there is time for one-on-one counseling and education.

Wednesday, Feburary 19th: Grandparents Day. This year’s theme is “Growing and Learning Together.” All children will have the opportunity to plant seeds and decorate a planter to take home with them.



Welcome to our centers! Everyone 55+ are encouraged to join us for fitness, culture, films, lunch and Bingo. Our centers are open to everyone from Somerville and surrounding communities. Wii Bowling League – at Holland Mondays at noon. Free. If you haven’t tried this -come as you will love it! No bowling ball but you still swing and hope for the best!
Zumba for All with Cheryl – at Holland – Wednesdays at 5:15 – 6:15 $3 or $15 for 6 classes. Come at the end of the day, after work – open to all.
Strengthening Exercise with Geoff – Tuesdays at 9:15 Holland and 10:00 Thursdays at R&J $3
Fit-4-Life LBT Tuesday and Thursday Evenings Fit-4-Life General Wednesday & Friday Mornings

Movies to Come Out To: February 12th. Meal from Vinnie’s Ristorante. Price $6. RSVP by February 10th. Movie TBA.

LBT Women Fit-4-Life Fitness and Nutrition Classes. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. $10 a month with scholarships available.

Ralph & Jenny Center Events

Ralph and Jenny Center will be open four days a week (Mon-Thurs) beginning Monday, January 27th!

Thursday, January 23rd: “Reflections: Portraits of Seniors in Images and Words,” a special exhibit featuring nine pastel portrait creations of Somerville artist Nancy Hall Brooks.

Cards and Games hour at Ralph & Jenny at 10:00 am every day the center is open (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Come join your friends or make some new ones. Cards, Scrabble and Cribbage.

Do you crochet or would you like to learn? Thursdays at 10:45 am. At Ralph & Jenny Center. Join a great group in learning to crochet or share your projects you are working on.

Strengthening Exercises with Geoff. 10 a.m. every Tuesday.

Cross Street Center Events:
Center open every Tuesday and Wednesday.

English Conversation group meets every Tuesday morning at 9:30 and Wednesday morning at 10:30. All welcome.
