Obituary
Walter D. McInerney, a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Walter was born in 1940, the son of Joseph and Anne McInerney. He was raised and educated in Somerville, graduating from Somerville High School with the Class of 1958. He went on to work at the Boston Medical Center in their Cleaning and Maintenance Department. He also served our country by joining the Army National Guard. In 1963, he married his sweetheart, Geraldine Feola. The two settled down in Somerville to raise their family. They shared 60 years of marriage together. Walter was a member of the George Dilboy VFW Post 529 in Somerville, and a regular at the legendary Abbey Lounge in Somerville, where he enjoyed playing poker and pool.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine McInerney, his children, Walter D. McInerney Jr. and his wife Nancy of Ashland, Kimberly A. McInerney and her boyfriend Dale of Medford, Thomas J. McInerney of Woburn, David P. McInerney of Los Angelas, CA, and Deborah A. Ryan and her husband Matthew of Taunton, his brother Robert McInerney of Woburn, Donald McInerney of Wakefield, Joanne Fahey of Wilmington, and Jean Bruillard of Middleboro, as well as 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Justin, Ashley, Sam, Caroline, Amanda and Nicholas and 1 great grandchild, Jameson, also many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his brother Joseph McInerney.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept 9th, at 2 PM in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem ST, Malden, with visitation beginning at Noon.
