The City of Somerville seeks three full and six alternate members for the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). Available roles and open positions are listed below.
The HPC administers the Demolition Review Ordinance and the Historic District Ordinance. HPC members work directly with staff in the Planning, Preservation & Zoning Division (PPZ) who provide professional analysis, guidance, and training to the HPC and help coordinate and administer Commission meetings.
The Commission typically meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:45 p.m. Members serve three-year terms in a volunteer capacity.
Two (2) or more must be Local Historic District (LHD) residents

Five (5) out of seven (7) alternate members must be Somerville residents. Slots #4-7 have no specific professional requirements.

Applications will be reviewed by the Mayor’s Appointments Advisory Committee. New members must be approved by the City Council. There will be a candidate interview process.
