At approximately 9:39pm on Monday April 4, 2022 the Medford Police, Medford Fire Department, and the MA State Police responded to the Mystic River in the area of Ship Ave. on a report of a person in the water. One of the Medford officers observed a person floating in the middle of the river. That officer jumped into the water to pull the person to safety. That officer was assisted by other officers who helped pull that person to the river bank.

The person that was pulled from the water was breathing, but in a semi-conscious state. The person pulled from the water was white male in his late teens. He was transported to the Mass General Brigham. The victim of the near drowning has been identified and his family was notified. We will not be disclosing his identity.
