Another Gun Incident in Somerville While Some Councilors Continue to Want to Defund Police

At around 2:00am a 17 year old female was shot in the area of Jacques and Grant Streets while walking with a friend. She suffered a gunshot wound to her lower torso and transported to Massachusetts General where she underwent surgery.

Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Police believe the victim was not the intended target of the shooting but that the incident might be gang related.

Somerville Police Report: Shooting Jacques St & Grant St
On July 5th, at approximately 1:35 AM, the Somerville Police responded to the intersection of Jacques St and Grant St for multiple shots fired. Upon arrival, police located a juvenile victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in critical condition but stable at this time. While processing the scene police discovered ballistic evidence in a nearby home where bullets entered an apartment where residents were sleeping.
