Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Rosa (Masciave) Moccia on her passing.

Rosa Moccia was a wonderful person who will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

Obituary:

Rosa (Masciave) Moccia passed away peacefully at home in the company of her loving family. She was 74. Born and raised in Corato, Bari, Apulia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Nunzio and Teodora Norina (Fiore) Masciave. She came to the United Sates in 1965, met Vittorio and the two were married. They lived in Somerville before settling in Medford. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Rosa was devoted to her family and friends. She and her husband operated Victor’s Deli in Ball Square for 37 years. Rosa along with her husband worked hard to build what became one of Somerville’s landmark establishments. Rosa cooked and served delicious home cooked meals to their large customer base. Whether they came for Italian specialties or simple American fare, every customer left satisfied and well fed. At home she delighted her family with her cooking and always looked forward to time at the ocean and being with her beloved grandchildren.

In addition to leaving her beloved husband Victor, Rosa leaves her devoted children: Katherine Auciello and her husband Louis of Danvers, Michael Moccia of Medford, Nancy Fucile and her husband Jason of Peabody. She was a loving grandmother to Lauren, Sabrina and Gianni. Rosa was a dear sister to Franca Di Modugno, Elisa Tortora, Joseph Masciave, Nina Falco, and the late Aldo Masciave and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to come to pay their respects and visit with the family from 9 AM to 12 Noon in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford on Monday, February 8th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at noon and will be available live stream via St. Raphael Parish Facebook Page. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Please follow social distancing protocols while attending services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rosa’s name to the Ronald McDonald House.
