Somerville to Honor Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at Community Event

Come celebrate the life and work of Dr. King while taking in some needed perspective and inspiration. Our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event is Monday, January 20, at 10 a.m. at the East Somerville Community School at 50 Cross Street. Organized by the Health and Human Services Department, The Somerville Human Rights Commission, and Somerville Public Schools, the celebration will feature:

A keynote address by notable social justice educator Aba Taylor
Live music by El Sistema Somerville and Somerville High School World Percussion Ensemble
Student essay contest winners reading their chosen essays (these are always a compelling highlight!)
The creation of a community mosaic

To benefit Project Soup, attendees are encouraged to bring donations of toiletries such as shampoo, toilet paper, and soap.
