It Was A Most Memorable 90th Gene Brune Birthday

By William Tauro

One could call it a birthday party or it could be called a Brune Administration reunion. No matter the name it was a great afternoon for former Somerville Mayor Emeritus Gene Brune.

Recently over sixty of Gene’s friends, political advisers, administratory assistants, office staff, department heads, board appointees, family members, along with Former Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay, Former Somerville Alderman Jack Connolly and Secretary of State William Galvin attended an event held at the Cafe Escadrlle Restaurant in Burlington to wish the Mayor a very happy 90th birthday.

In his remarks Brune stated “How pleased and proud he was to have his administration that was made up of so many young and talented individuals that helped him shape the city and allowed him to fill the promise that he made to the citizens when elected.” He also stated that at the time “He would bring people together, give them transparency and change the image as well as the face of the city. Also, and most important, jointly, we each gave the citizens a good, honest and open government.”

In closing Mayor Brune stated that “He wanted to thank John Prior, Grace Abruzzio, Gerry McCue and Sheila Molinari for all the time and effort that each put in to make this party a complete success.”
