Somerville Speakup Line: Cross Street Market & Deli 30 Days to Get Out After 24 Years of Business

Dear Billy T and Somerville Speakup Line,

I just found out that Cross Street Market & Del have 30 days to get out after 24 years of business. I’m so disappointed that our Portuguse people now have no where else t go, specially the elderly it makes me cry. I heard they want them to build condominiums. Why is this shit happening given people and businesses 30 days to get out after 24 years in business wtf maybe you can help.

I hope and pray that what happen in Fall River it happens to The Mayor in Somerville too.

Thank you,

Sad in Somerville

  1. So sad to see this store go 🙁 it was a community and the people there were so great! I’ve known them since I was a kid and to see them gone is heart breaking 🙁 I wish they didn’t have to do this!! I’ll always remember this market <3

  2. One thing we don’t need more of is more unaffordable condos in Somerville. All of the condos they’ve been building is causing more and more traffic on the city streets. Just try using McGrath Hwy during rush hour. It used to be a great city to live in.

  3. I Grew up in that Area all my Life as a Kid going to that store before it was( Manny place)Great Guy.. bought that place ” it is Sad too see it Go like that just Give them only 30 BUSINESS DAYS TO LEAVE COME ON CITY HALL WHERES THE LOVE.. to pick up and go IT WILL BE Sadly Miss ..getting candy as a Somerville kid coming from school Every day. Me and my Brother Dane .. I will Truly miss that Corner Store it brings me to TEARS

  4. Very sad.these people hard workers and have always provided great good.sorry to here they are being forced out

  5. store is owned by re co that jacked his they him out they want
condos mini mall tearing down store church they dont want you people

  6. WHY, IT HAPPENED TO US, NEARBY AT THE CORNER OF PEARL AND CROSS, THE NONPROFIT THE NEIGHBORHOOD CHILDREN LOVED, AFTER 23 YRS., AND 35,000 MULTICULTURAL ARTS PROGRAMS, THE ETHNIC ARTS CENTER-CREATED BY THE PEOPLE OF EAST SOMERVILLE IN 1980-RUN OUT OF EAST SOM FROM GENTRIFICATION. :'(

  7. This is not right!!!! Why not make space for them in the new landscape? Both condos and this amazing neighborhood business should be able to coexist.

  8. Profits before people. While I no longer live in Somerville, I drive down to that store from Melrose weekly. Beautiful people that cater to their community. It’s not fair, stop this if you can plz

  9. This is sad news. I frequently visit this quaint little market for great Portuguese products and have come to know the family that owns and operates. Very nice, humble people just trying to make a living. I’m very sad to hear this. 😔

  10. Don’t closet to make expensive condominiums people can not afford you guys like to expend money for no reason 😰😰live that store
