Somerville Pop Warner Football on a Mission

By Brandon Toro

Our Somerville Pop Warner Villens D Team move on to 2-0 on the year, after a heart stopping finish against a great competitor in the Revere Jr. Patriots.

After a hard fought first half, on an unusually hot October Sunday morning, the teams went to the locker rooms with Revere up 6-0 behind a powerful run game, and an Interception by Somerville Safety Lamaurie that prevented Revere’s point after attempt.

But lucky for us Villens the second half was a different story. With adjustments by the coaching staff and relentless will of the players the Villens came out firing on all cylinders. After stellar Defense shut down Reveres next drive and a steady methodical start to Somerville’s next offensive drive, star Running Back Ibrahim Kaba broke a few tackles in route to a 60 yard touchdown Run to put the Villens on the Board.

Capped off with the point after to put Somerville up 7-6 going into the 4th quarter. After another stellar defensive performance, a broken pass play on 4th and 13 lead to another Revere touchdown with 2 minutes remaining in the Game.

Down but not out Somerville once again denied Revere at the Goal line in their point after attempt, to keep the game at arms length at 12-7. Somerville came out in a hurry up offense having no timeouts left. Never huddling until Revere called a timeout with 12 seconds remaining after an amazing catch by Somerville’s Jaycob Underwood, to prepare for a big stop on the very last play of the Game. With 12 seconds remaining, Somerville’s Offensive Line did what they had done all day and left it all on the field.

Opening up a Lane For RB Ibrahim Kaba who took it 25 yards to the house putting Somerville on top 13-12 as the clock expired in an absolute nail bitting win. The Villens now head into a week 3 Match up of the only undefeated teams in their division.

Against Last year’s Eastern Mass. Champion Mission Hill Buccaneers for sole possession of First Place in what is still a long season.

Come support our young stars this Sunday at Dilboy stadium, Game starts at 9:30am. See you there!
