New Davis Square Traffic and Pedestrian Signal Pattern Begins June 27

A new traffic and pedestrian signal timing pattern, which will increase safety and give pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers more time to get through the main intersection, is coming to Davis Square beginning Wednesday, June 27.

Preparation and necessary signal improvements will be made on Saturday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 27. On both dates, some signal outages are planned in order to complete the work. On Saturday, traffic lights will be turned off from 8 a.m. to noon, and on Wednesday, lights will be turned off from 10 a.m to noon. These outages are likely to result in some traffic backup, so please plan extra travel time or find an alternate route. There will be a police detail on site during the work to assist with vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic flow.

Once work is completed on June 27, the new light pattern will be in place. As always, for everyone’s safety, we ask drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to be alert and to observe all signals when traveling through the square. Pedestrians should wait for the walk signal at each leg of the intersection, and drivers and cyclists should be aware of pedestrians in the crosswalks and yield to them.
