Somerville Police Department Beyond the Call of Duty Award

This Beyond the Call of Duty Award is based on a recommendation from Marybeth Pero, who wanted to thank Officer Brian Pavao for his assistance on January 7.

On Sunday, January 07, 2018, Marybeth Pero’s 9-year-old daughter, Jyanna, ran over to Officer Pavao to ask him directions to Cambridge Hospital. Officer Pavao, who was working a detail at the corner of Webster Avenue and Newton Street, walked over to where Jyanna pointed to Mrs. Pero gasping for air.

In Remembrance of Paul Carroll, One Year Later

“Hi Cate, this is Paul,” there is a hoarse laugh at the end of that statement. “How ya doing? Just want to see how you’re doing. Talk to you later hun, bye bye.”

This is one of the last voicemails that I have from Paul Carroll, otherwise known as Bampy. It was from February 11, 2017 – five days before my favorite person and biggest cheerleader would leave us.
