Somerville-Green Line Update

In November the MBTA awarded a contract to GLX Constructors, a joint-venture of several companies, to build the bulk of the Green Line Extension. The $1.08 billion winning bid is under the $1.3 billion budget set by the MBTA, according to the Boston Globe. The Globe also noted the winning bid includes several elements previously cut from the project, including construction of the Community Path. Mayor Joe Curtatone said the news was “a huge victory for Somerville, the region and the Commonwealth.” Construction is expected to begin in 2018, with service running by 2021, the Globe said.
