What Trump doesn’t seem to understand is our shared international values were forged 70+ years ago in direct opposition to the kind of rabid nationalism he espouses. We fought a world war against it and defeated it. It is anathema to the values with which the vast majority of us have been raised
The historical echoes in his speech are chilling – “The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive. Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?”
He’s pushing fear of the other and the notion that diversity equals subversion. I’ll just say that’s what the bad guys do. I’m not even sure Trump understands what he’s pushing, that he’s the subversive agent here. Seems like he enjoys the prestige and others like Bannon and Miller are setting the agenda.
