Meet this week’s “Special Person of the Week:Pasquale (Pat) Guarino
Pat was born in Italy in 1934 and came to America by way of Venezuela in 1955.
He married his sweetheart Gerry in 1960 and they both lived in East Boston.
They decided to move to “the country”, which in 1973 was Somerville.
They have two children, Ray and Toni.
Pat is a skilled Carpenter and has been a member of Local 51 Carpenter’s Union for 52 years now.
His hobby is gardening and that is where you can always find him most of the time.
He grows string beans, tomatoes, eggplant, herbs and squash as well as he also has fig and peach trees.
People always beep and wave to him as he’s tending his garden, but if you stop and talk to him you’ll most likely leave with a paper bag full of produce.
He is known as “The Tomato Man”.
His garden was featured in “Somerville’s Walking Garden Tour 2010.”
We here at the Somerville News Weekly would also like to wish him the best of health as he wraps up his last round cancer treatment this week.
People like Pat, with his charm, pleasant personality and his hospitality and kindness to others are what make Somerville one of the greatest cities on earth.
Our hats are off to his true Somerville spirit!
We here at the Somerville News Weekly salute you for everything that you do to make Somerville a better place.
