ON THIS DAY IN: 1519 – Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan left Spain to find a route to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. Magellan was killed during the trip, but one of his ships eventually made the journey.

The Boston Police Department has received the go ahead to begin a Police Body Camera pilot program in the city. Last October we looked at the possibility of the technology coming to Somerville. Mayor Curtatone weighs in and we visit a successful program in the City of Methuen. Where does Somerville’s body cam program stand now?

SNN #71: Saying Good bye to the Mayor of Union Square
The Vango Convenience Store and its Mascot Hunter the dog has been a landmark in Union Square for more than a decade. On September 15 the doors will close and Hunter, known as the Mayor of Union Square will retire. It’s part of the rapidly changing face of the Square as small businesses succumb to rising rents and gentrification.
