On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1:30 P.M., I received a call from Sports Authority Loss Prevention Agent, XXXXX. XXXXX stated he observed a male select two watches and conceal them in his backpack, then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.
XXXXX along with Loss Prevention Agent YYYYY, followed the male, stopped him outside the store and escorted him back to their office.
I arrived on scene along with Officers Anderson and Pavao and identified the man as Daniel Megquier. Mr. Megquier had a Multi-Compartment backpack which contained newspaper in one compartment, and inside another compartment were two sheets of aluminum foil approximately (16 in by 8 in) each, and two watches (Polar M400) total value $459.90. I also recovered a pair of pliers from Mr. Megquier’s backpack.
It should be noted that the two sheets of aluminum foil were clean, appeared to be unused, and were the same size as the compartment of the backpack they were in. The way in which the foil was placed, is consistent with the effort to shield merchandise from detection by an electronic or magnetic theft detector.
I placed Mr. Megquier under arrest for Larceny over $250, possession of burglarious instrument, and unlawful possession of theft detection shielding device.
Mr. Megquier was transported to the Somerville Police Headquarters via unit 200, operated by Officer Ameral, and booked by Lieutenant Rymill.
Respectfully submitted,
Officer Samir Messaoudi #312
Somerville Police Dept.
