Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Shoplifting Hone Depot Somerville

The following is a summary of the details related to this incident.

On December 6, 2015 at approximately 15:15 hours, while assigned as marked unit Alpha-1, I observed a black male approximately 5’9”, 175lbs, wearing a black jacket and carrying a black opaque bag running from the Home Depot towards the direction of the Assembly Square train station. As I watched this male, later identified as Jonas Moses-Gilson, I received a phone call on my department issued cell phone from Home Depot loss prevention associate XXXXX. XXXXX informed me that he had just observed a male matching the description of Moses-Gilson take two power tools from inside the Home Depot and exit without making any attempt to pay. XXXXX stated that as he got out to the parking lot, he observed the male put the power tools into a black bag.

I activated my marked cruiser’s blue lights and pulled up alongside Moses-Gilson on Foley St. As soon as I did Moses-Gilson immediately began to exclaim, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s just two power tools”. Two power tools were recovered from Moses-Gilson’s bag which totaled $212.44. At this point Officer’s Pasqualino, Prophete, and Kim arrived to assist. Moses-Gilson was positively identified by loss prevention associate XXXXX at the location of the stop. Unit #200 operated by Officer Gardner was called to transport Moses-Gilson back to the station. Moses-Gilson was booked in the usual manner by Lt. Digregorio and is charged with violation of M.G.L. c. 266 s30A Shoplifting.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Anderson #315
