Somerville Remembering Army SSG Damon Shanafelt

   
 It is with great sorrow that we share this post. Sadly, on, August 1, 2015, we lost another hero, stateside. 

Army SSG Damon Shanafelt, of Somerville, Massachusetts. Rest easy, Warrior. We will never forget.

S Sgt Damon R. Shanafelt , 41, of Derry, NH, died unexpectedly Friday, July 31, 2015 at his home in Derry, NH. He was born in Medford, MA on September 18, 1973, and a long time resident of Somerville, MA. Damon was a Loving husband to Christine Shanafelt of Derry. Damon proudly served his country with the US Army Reserves, attaining a rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Master Electrician. Damon was a 20 year member of the North Suburban Dart League out of the Melrose Elks.
Son of Darell and the late Theresa (Macone) Shanafelt. Devoted father to his son, Marciano Shanafelt and his daughter, Giuliana Shanafelt, both of Somerville, MA, his step-son, Dane McIntosh and step-daughter, Kailah Carroll, both of Derry, two brothers, Darren Shanafelt of Quincy, MA and Derek Shanafelt of Somerville, MA; his sister-in-law Lisa Carroll of Derry, as well as a niece and nephews, his godchild Anthony Shanafelt, Ava Rose Shanafelt, Dominic Shanafelt, Darren Shanafelt Jr., and Devin Shanafelt. 
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 4 -8 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Washington Street, Winchester, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
