This year’s festival and theme was Loops. Dave Ortega’s design work was the theme for this year’s festival.

ArtBeat is one of the area’s largest and most innovative arts festivals, with over a dozen bands, dance troupes, 75 craft vendors, food and hatch-themed activities.

On Friday night ArtBeat showcased music and interactive performances, then on Saturday ArtBeat festivities shut down Davis Square for the craft vendors, two stages of music, dance in the Somerville Theater, and a host of great interactive peformances.

The hundreds of attendees celebrated all things that loop, encircled, repeated and played back in endless cycles. ArtBeat invited artists and all community members to explore how looping—the repetition of a pattern, sound or idea—informs a work of art or a concept. “Loops” evoke many things: music that repeats a riff throughout an entire song or performance, a dance in which movement suggests circles, or a visual work of art that suggests planetary orbits.
