KICK OFF SUMMERTIME IN SOMERVILLE AT FAMILY FUN DAY, FIREWORKS

Fourth of July Fireworks, Family Fun Day set for June 27, July 2, at Trum Field.

SOMERVILLE – Summer officially kicks off this weekend with the annual Family Fun Day in Somerville on Saturday, June 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at Trum Field. Summertime in Somerville from June to September will include annual favorite events and series as well as some new programs for residents of all ages. Following Family Fun Day, the City will host its annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at Trum Field on Thursday, July 2.

The 11th annual Family Fun Day at Trum Field will feature free, family-friendly programming including a community BBQ, pony rides, train rides, children’s activities, face painting, music, and more.

On Thurs., July 2, live entertainment at Trum Field will include performances by the Somerville Sunsetters, local Disco-Funk band Booty Vortex, the USO Metropolitan New York Performers, the Boston Windjammers, and “Somerville Idol,” Tammy Rego, beginning at 6 p.m., all leading up to a 30-minute fireworks display at approximately 9:15 p.m.

To ensure public safety and pedestrian access to events, traffic and parking restrictions will be in place as follows:

FAMILY FUN DAY

• Franey Road and portions Charles E. Ryan Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• No parking on Franey Road and portions of Charles E. Ryan Road from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Please obey posted signage.)

FIREWORKS

• Broadway
o No Parking at Trum Field 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
o Ball Square to Magoun Sq.: No Parking 4 p.m. to midnight; street closed 5 p.m. to midnight.
• Cedar St.
o Morrison Ave. to the Bridge: No Parking 8 a.m. to midnight; traffic restricted to residents only 4 to 6 p.m.; street closed after 6 p.m.
o Bridge to Broadway: No Parking 8 a.m. to midnight; traffic restricted to residents only 4 to 6 p.m. (from Morrison Ave. only); street closed 6 p.m. to midnight.
• Franey Rd.: No Parking 4 p.m. to midnight; street closed 4 p.m. to midnight.
• Charles E. Ryan Rd.: No parking 8 a.m. to midnight; access restricted to residents 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; street closed 6 p.m. to midnight.
• MBTA Buses 80 & 89 rerouted 5 p.m. to midnight. See http://www.mbta.com for full detour information.

Due to the large crowds and loud noise associated with the Fireworks Celebration, the City recommends that attendees leave pets at home and not bring unnecessary bags or backpacks.
