Good evening, friends, neighbors, and fellow Somervillians. After much reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision not to submit my nomination papers for mayor of our great city. As a straight, white, conservative man, I’ve come to realize that in a progressive, liberal city like Somerville and beyond, my chances of winning are slim. Running would likely be a futile effort, a waste of time and resources that could be better spent elsewhere.
Instead, I’m choosing to focus on what truly matters: tackling the pressing community problems that affect both residents and businesses in Somerville and surrounding communities. Through the power of the pen and the reach of the media, I plan to shine a light on the issues that too often go ignored—homelessness, drug addiction, and rising crime. These challenges don’t just impact residents; they hit our local businesses hard, too.
Many business owners, who pour their hearts into keeping our city vibrant, don’t live here and often feel voiceless in local politics. Elected officials tend to prioritize residents’ views, leaving businesses high and dry, their potential diminished by policies that overlook their needs.
By amplifying these concerns through writing, advocacy, and community engagement, I aim to push for real solutions that benefit everyone—residents and businesses alike.
This isn’t a goodbye to public service. I haven’t ruled out running for office in the very near future focusing on bigger and better things, possibly even Governor, and I’ll keep you all posted on what’s next.
Thank you for your support, and let’s work together to make Somerville stronger, fairer, and more inclusive for all. William Tauro for Governor of Massachusetts! #Govenorbillytauro
Respectfully,
William “Billy” Tauro
