The Somerville Lion’s Club held its 2019 Annual installation of officers banquet and clambake last Tuesday to bring in the new officers for 2019-2020 calendar years.

The event with over one hundred attendees took place at the Somerville Winter Hill Yacht Club consisting of Lion Club Members, friends, relatives, other lions and service clubs from around the state was a big success. The event was enjoyed by all as well as motivated them into high gear to roll up their sleeves to begin continuing the work that they do best which is as their Lion’s Club motto says “WE SERVE!”

Joann Bocca- Rivieccio was elected and sworn in as president of the Somerville Lion’s Club with energetic plans to hit the ground running with more members that were inducted into the club that night to get much more needed work done this coming term.

Liam Seward and Noreen Begley were installed as first and second Vice Presidents at the event. Larry Murphy was installed as the club’s secretary and former Somerville Mayor Gene Brune was installed as the clubs treasurer.

Somerville Lions President Billy Tauro has concluded his final term after more than six terms as the club’s president.

President Billy Tauro, Club Secretary Larry Murphy and longtime Somerville Lions Club member Frank Pasciuto were recognized at the event and were presented the Lions Club prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Honors.

A Melvin Jones Fellowship is an honor–not an award. The Melvin Jones Fellowship was established as Lions Clubs International Foundation’s (LCIF) highest form of recognition to acknowledge an individual’s dedication to humanitarian service.

President Joann Bocca- Rivieccio plans to reach out to Somerville’s other service clubs, (Somerville Rotary Club and Somerville Kiwanis Club) and join forces with them to assist as many people as possible that need help out there in the community.
