The Somerville Public Library’s recent stuffed animal sleepover has attracted significant social media attention. Metro Boston featured the event on its website, saying the library is getting “lots of love online.” During the sleepover, Somerville kids dropped their stuffed animals off at the library for the night and then followed their furry friends’ nighttime adventures via Facebook updates. Among other things, the animals read books, played games, met staff, ate snacks, brushed their teeth, and slept on bookshelves. Metro notes that, “besides being super cute,” a similar stuffed animal sleepover in Japan resulted in more children reading picture books to their animals after the event. If you’re interested, the East Branch library is holding a sleepover on August 9.
