Somerville Remembering Theresa Shelzi

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Theresa Shelzi on her passing. Theresa Shelzi was a wonderful and kind hearted person as well as a very good friend to us here in the newsroom.

Theresa Shelzi was also mother to Somerville’s Toni Shelzi of ABG Realty.

Theresa Shelzi will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

Obituary and Memorial service information:

Theresa Rose (Vigliante) Shelzi, 90, a longtime resident of Ipswich, died peacefully and suddenly, at her home in Florida, on Friday, April 27th. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Shelzi.

Born in Brooklyn, Theresa was a daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (D’Amato) Vigliante. She graduated with a B.A. from St. John’s University in New York City and received Master’s Degrees from Salem State College in Early Childhood Education and Fitchburg State University in Counseling.

For many years she worked as an ESL teacher and Counselor at Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High School in Tyngsborough, MA.

Theresa enjoyed many great and lifelong friendships, her cottage in Ipswich, her Church parish families, her family, gardening, playing bridge and traveling.

She was the loving mother of Antonia Shelzi of Belmont, MA, Joseph Shelzi, his wife Julianne of Boston, MA, Peter Shelzi of Pelham, NH, John Shelzi of Lawrence, MA, Maria Del Rio Shelzi of Madison, WI, Vincent Shelzi of Portland, ME, Dominic Shelzi, his wife Donna of North Kingstown, RI, Clare Thompson, her husband Kenneth of Westford, MA, and Damien Shelzi of Tewksbury, MA. Cherished grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 5. Dear sister of the late Ralph Vigliante, his late wife Connie, of Elmira, NY, and the late Gina Crea, her husband Joseph, of Brooklyn, NY, as well as survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, on Saturday, May 5th at 10. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, May 4th from 4-8 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Theresa’s honor to Catholic Charities.
