Somerville’s Engine 6 Responds to West Somerville Overdose Calling Cambridge For Hazardous Materials Assistance

This past Friday morning at 0503hrs Engine 6 responded to a residence in West Somerville for an overdose. Upon successfully reviving the victim with narcan, Engine 6 determined the presence of possible fentanyl and immediately upgraded the response.

The arriving Chief Officer ordered a Limited Level 1 Hazardous Materials response from the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region which called for Cambridge Fire Rescue 1, Hazmat 1, Squad 4 and Division 1.

Members made entry in their personal protective equipment and successfully contained the substance at which point it was diluted with a dahlgren solution. Our thanks to the Cambridge Fire Department for their assistance.
