On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, while on full uniform patrol in marked unit 871, I (Officer Patrick Canty) was dispatched to 75 Myrtle St for a report of a Breaking and Entering to a Motor Vehicle in progress. Marked unit East 4(Officer Brian Paveo) was dispatched as back up. While en route, Dispatch stated the suspect was a black male, wearing a white sweater, black jean shorts, and a beanie style hat, red green and yellow in color. Upon arrival I saw the suspect at the vehicle in question, looking in the window. When he saw me he immediately stepped away from the car. We approached the suspect who immediately stated “I didn’t do nothing wrong”. I asked the suspect for ID and he stated he did not have any.

 

Officer Paveo asked the suspect for his name, and he stated Romero Sylvera. Mr. Sylvera was shaking uncontrollably. I asked him if he was ok, and he stated he was not shaking. While Officer Paveo stayed with Sylvera, I approached the witness, XXXXX.

 

XXXXX stated she was at home, when a neighbor told her there was a male near her mother’s car. XXXXX approached him and asked him to get away from the car. She stated she went back to her home, and was told the male was now inside her mother’s car. XXXXX said she ran down stairs and saw the male with the door open looking around her mother’s car. XXXXX confronted Sylvera and told him to get away from the car and shut the door and locked it. Sylvera stated that it was his friend “Kenny’s” car.

 

I approached Sylvera and asked him why he was in the car, he stated it was his friend’s car, and he doesn’t drink. I informed him that numerous neighbors had witnessed him enter the car, and he was placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Daytime. Sylvera was transported to the Somerville Police Station by the Transport Wagon (Officer Michael Marra), and booked by the Commander, Lt Richard Lavey, per the usual manner.
