Real Life Somerville Police Stories :Heather LEET (ADW, Fail to Stop, Reckless Operation of MV, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct)

On the morning of Monday, November 14, 2016 I, was assigned to marked unit E-3. At 10:56 AM, a transmission came over the radio by an officer yelling for assistance, at the corner of School Street and Summer Street. The officer in question is Captain Michael Cabral I could also hear someone else screaming in the background. While on a detail in full uniform on School Street, Captain Cabral had stopped traffic for an exiting construction vehicle. He was able to get a few of the remaining vehicles past the point of congestion. When a Gray Honda Civic being operated by Heather Leet approached the Captain’s position, she was told to stop By Captain Cabral. Ms. Leet disregarded the Captain’s order and continued forward causing Captain Cabral to jump out of the way of the moving vehicle to avoid being struck.

Ms. Leet was only able to advance her vehicle a few feet away to area of 59 School Street, due to traffic at the red light. Captain Cabral at this point approached the vehicle and stated I told you to stop. Captain Cabral had then reached in to the vehicle to attempt to put the vehicle in park. Ms. Leet, at that moment advanced the car forward again in a reckless manner, disregarding the potential harm to Captain Cabral, had he not moved out of the way. It was at this point Captain Cabral, ran up to the now stopped vehicle, and told Ms. Leet that she was under arrest. Ms. Leet was removed from the driver’s seat and immediately began resisting. Captain Cabral had to request assistance to restrain Ms. Leet.

Several units responded to assist. As I, approached the scene Ms. Leet looked directly at me and stated ” I admit it, I didn’t want to wait.” Per the request of Captain Cabral, unit #200 was requested and Ms. Leet was transported the Somerville Police Department to be booked in the usual manner by the shift commander Lt. D. DeOliveira.

Respectfully submitted,
