As summer temperatures climb, The Somerville Theatre’s PLAY IT COOL film series keeps a chill in the air, wrapping up with a double feature of original 35mm prints of “Ocean’s 11” (1960) and “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968) on Thursday, August 18th. Starring some of the kings of cool – including Rat Packers: Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Joey Bishop along with Lee Marvin – this pair of classic crime capers are guaranteed to bring goosebumps to the skin of otherwise overheated summer film-goers.

Synopses:
OCEAN’S 11 (1960): Danny Ocean (Frank Sinatra) calls on some of his World War II buddies — including Jimmy Foster (Peter Lawford), Sam Harmon (Dean Martin) and Josh Howard (Sammy Davis Jr.) — to pull off an elaborate New Year’s Eve heist at five casinos in Las Vegas. Eleven members of Danny’s crew come together to pull off a perfect robbery, but they suffer a series of setbacks when Duke Santos (Cesar Romero), a former gangster, tries to thwart Ocean’s plans to disappear with the money.
THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (1968): Bored millionaire Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) concocts and executes a brilliant scheme to rob a bank without having to do any of the work himself. When Vicki Anderson (Faye Dunaway), an investigator for the bank’s insurance company, takes an interest in Crown, the two begin a complicated cat-and-mouse game with a romantic undertones.
