Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Timothy WALSH (Shoplifting)Nike Store Assembly Row

On Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 4:18 P.M., I received a telephone call from Nike Store Manager, XXXXX, stating a store employee, YYYYY observed a male conceal a pair of sneakers in a bag and exit the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

XXXXX described the shoplifter, as a white male carrying a black backpack, wearing a black shirt, blue shorts, walking East on Grand Union Blvd towards McGrath Hwy.

I responded along with Officer Sousa to the area of Grand Union Blvd and McGrath Hwy, and located a male matching the description. I identified the male as Timothy Walsh. Mr. Walsh was carrying a backpack and a shopping bag. I asked Mr. Walsh to place his bags on the ground, directly in front of him, and I saw two pairs of sneakers inside the shopping bag. I asked Mr. Walsh if he had a receipt for the merchandise and he stated, “No. I don’t. You know that.”

Inside the shopping bag, I located two pairs of Nike sneakers (total value $239.98). Officer Sousa returned the sneakers to Nike, and XXXXX confirmed the merchandise was property of Nike.

I placed Mr. Walsh under arrest for shoplifting by concealing, 2nd offense. Mr. Walsh was transported to the Somerville Police Headquarters via unit 200, operated by Officer D. Dottin, and booked by Lieutenant Rymill.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Samir Messaoudi #312
