Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Jeramie CROFT (Larceny)Shoplifting at Assembly Row Sports Authority

The following is a summary of the details related to this incident.

On February 11, 2016 at approximately 15:40 hours, while assigned as marked unit Alpha-1, I received a call on my department issued cell phone. Sports Authority Loss Prevention Associate XXXXX informed me that he and Loss Prevention Associate YYYYY were monitoring a male, later identified as Jeramie Croft. XXXXX told me that Croft took a pack of socks and a pair of thermal pants off a shelf, ripped off the tags with his hand, and proceeded into the bathroom. Croft exited the bathroom a short time later with the socks and pants no longer visible.

Croft then took a backpack off the shelf, removed the tag with his hand again, and proceeded to place 2 pieces of clothing into the bag. Croft was exiting the store with the backpack on his back, having made no attempt to pay for the merchandise, as I arrived. Croft was stopped and escorted back to the Loss Prevention office without incident. In the office, Croft stated that he was wearing the socks and the thermal pants that he had taken and had put them on in the bathroom. All merchandise was recovered.

The total value of the merchandise taken by Croft is $268.24. Croft was placed into handcuffs and transported to the station by unit #200 operated by Officer Fusco where he was booked by Lt. Mulcahy. Jeramie Croft is charged with violation of M.G.L. ch.266 §30 Larceny over $250.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Anderson #315
