Letter to the Editor:Interesting Mural In Somerville

By Joseph Anthony Materese

This interesting mural is located at the corner of Somerville Avenue and Elm Street in Somerville Massachusetts.
Whether there are good connotations with the addition of the flower that’s placed in the muzzle of the AK-47 or not, it’s tasteless.
It looks like Arabic writing with symbolisms on the back ground.
Once again there something disturbing about it with the word obey.
It appears to be just one of the many things new citizens of Somerville are allowed to get away with.

  1. The mural is a work of art created by Frank Shepard Fairey; an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator and founder of OBEY who emerged from the skateboarding scene. One of his more famous pieces is a poster featuring the current President of the United States, Somerville is fortunate to have public works of Mr. Fairey on view.
