Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Shoplifting at KMart Assembly Square & Drug Possession Arrest

On November 12, 2015 I Orlando Jacquet was assigned to marked unit East 1 with Officer Van Nostrand. At approximately 10:01 PM we were dispatched to KMART for a larceny in progress. Upon arrival XXXXX, KMARTS loss prevention manager flagged us down in front of Dunkin Donuts on Middlesex Ave. He informed us that Joyce Fisher-White was in the ladies room with the stole merchandise. We entered Dunkin Donuts and confronted White. White’s demeanor was immediately aggressive and hostile. While we attempted to have a conversation with White, XXXXX retrieved the stolen property from the women’s room.

XXXXX informed us he was alerted that KMART employee White had been shoplifting from the store for the past week. Tonight he observed her conceal numerous items and exit the store without paying. White refused to stop for XXXXX, and this is when he contacted the Somerville Police. I informed White she was under arrest and ordered her to place her hands behind her back. She refused, and after a second attempt we had to physically place her hands behind her back. While attempting to handcuff White, she tensed up and pulled her arms away from us. After a brief struggle she was placed into handcuffs. During an inventory of her personal property to confirm there was no more stolen merchandise, we located five green pills. She stated the pills were prescribed to her, but no prescription bottle was found. These pills were seized as evidence. The wagon was requested, and she was transported by Officer Rivera to Somerville Police station where she was booked by LT. Digregorio. White will be charged with Shoplifting over $100 by concealing merchandise, Possession of Class E Drug, and Resisting Arrest.

Respectfully Submitted,

Officer Orlando Jacquet

Somerville Police Dept.
