The Somerville News Weekly’s Special Person of the Week Vivaldo Meneses Jr Candidate for Somerville’s Ward 3 School Committee

It’s was never too early to hit the ground running to help a fine community as we have here in Somerville for Vivaldo (Valdo) Meneses Jr, Candidate for Somerville’s Ward 3 School Committee.

His story begins at Logan Airport in 1969, where he just landed from Azores, Portugal to begin a new life in America. Since 1972 his family and He have been residents and business owners of Somerville. A 1980 graduate of Somerville High School then soon after he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1980.

During his 20 year career In the Air Force he was fortunate to serve in overseas tours including Gulf War 1 and Southeast Asia zones. Unfortunately, his military career was curtailed in October 2000 due to disabilities that he incurred.

Education was always a priority for Meneses, so while on active duty he attended night school and received a BA from Granite State College, attended University of Southern California MBA program for 1 year and recently attended Massachusetts School of Law (2008 – 2010). He brings to this job strong administrative skills, leadership and a commitment to public service.

Giving (service) back to the community came in many different forms. Whether as a Freemason, member of King Solomon’s Lodge in Somerville or as President of the Cambridge Lions Club via its founders the Somerville Lions Club and also as an affiliate of the Somerville Lions Club (2012 – present), or as a Shriner, he feels service to our community builds and strengthens character in our leaders.

Why him for the job? We feel that his leadership attributes from the military and life experiences, give him the edge on looking “outside the box” for solutions to current complex situations.

Vivaldo Meneses Jr is seeking your endorsement and he humbly asks for your vote in November.
We here at the Somerville News Weekly salute you for everything that you do to make Somerville a better place.
