Well, it may have taken a while but summer seems to have arrived. As Mark Twain famously said, “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes,” and that has certainly been the case around here lately.
One thing that will keep you warmed up is fantastic events that we have scheduled for June, and they will all be happening no matter what the temperature is, so come visit us!

Jumpstart Your Writing
June 8th, 6pm-7pm in the Cafe

The good folks at Grub Street are looking to inspire both new and practicing writers through a series of fun, directed exercises in this FREE workshop. Writers will explore the terrain of fiction and nonfiction, mining for material, constructing characters and settings, shaping vivid dialogue, understanding point of view, and finding their voice. This class, limited to 12 attendees, has just one mission: to devote one hour of every day to creative writing. There is no cost to participate but writers must enroll in advance here.

Revels FRINGE: Sam Amidon and Maeve Gilchrist
June 14th, 7pm-9:30pm in the Hall

Vermont-based singer and fiddler, Sam Amidon, will be joined onstage by Edinburgh, Scotland’s Maeve Gilchrist on harp and vocals. Half of the evening will be dedicated to traditional roots and the other half to “the unpredictable edge of the folk process.” Get your General Admission tickets by clicking here.

Bowery Boston Presents…

PigPen Theatre Company with You Won’t
Wednesday, June 17th, 7pm-9:30pm
The PigPen Theatre Co. is a unique brand of music, film, and theatre. They are currently on tour as a band and a theatre company, while also working on a children’s book. Joining them is the musical duo You Won’t. Tickets are $20 and available here.

Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld Duo
Thursday, June 18th, 7:30pm-10:30pm
Colin Stetson, known primarily as an innovative saxophonist, has been playing in a duo with violinist, Sarah Neufeld, since they toured together as soloists in 2012. Tickets, $18 in advance/$20 day of this all ages show are available here.

Tigers Jaw
Friday, June 26th, 7:30pm-10:30pm
Is it pop punk? Is it emo? Indie? From Scranton, PA comes a band for which you might answer, “yes” to all of the above and they will showcase their shimmering organ textures, unique guitar chords, and male/female vocal harmonies in a rare acoustic performance. Tickets are $20 and are available here.

Luminarium Dance Company 5th Anniversary Gala & Showcase
June 21st, 5pm-8pm in the Hall

The Luminarium Dance Company is celebrating five wonderfully successful years in the Boston dance community and inviting friends and supporters, both old and new, to their Anniversary Gala & Showcase. The evening will feature not only live performances by the company but a delicious spread from local establishments, along with a cash bar, raffle, speeches from artistic collaborators, silent and live auctions, and exclusive 2015 Season announcements. Perhaps most exciting will be when Luminarium is presented the prestigious 2015 Gold Star Award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council! Tickets are available at here at a cost of $30 for General Admission. $27 for BDA Members and $20 for Young Professionals and advance purchase of tickets is highly recommended.
