On March 2, 2015 at 10: 22 PM, while assigned marked unit East 4 and in full police uniform I was dispatched to Michaels Place to back up Officer Shackelford on a check condition call. While Officer Shackelford dealt with the situation he walked a female out of the bar and a male, Patrick Courtney, kept placing himself between the female and Officers and was asked by Officer Pasqualino, to stay inside and not interfere with Officers again. The female at this time also asked Officer Shackelford to keep defendant away from her and she wanted to leave. As Officer Pasqualino and Sgt Digregorio exited I followed behind them only to be pushed against the door by Courtney attempting to exit the bar in pursuit of the female party.
I turned around and asked Courtney to not push me and to stay inside, Courtney then assumed a fighting stance and was being egged on by patrons of the bar to continue with his actions. Courtney went on a profanity laced tirade towards this Officer as the crowd watched. At that time I told Courtney to calm down and stop his antics, instead Courtney made an overt move towards me and I grabbed him in an arm bar and with the assistance of Officer Pasqualino and Sgt Digregorio took him to the ground where he continued fighting, flailing his arms and kicking. Courtney grabbed a hold of my microphone and ripped the collar piece off my jacket and then proceeded to grab hold of my portable radio and ripped the holster off of my gun belt. I then proceeded to pull out my department issued pepper spray and gave a 1 second burst to defendants face which helped distract him enough to get him handcuffed and brought outside.
Courtney was transported to the station via 200 and booked by Lt. AW Rymill and charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.
Respectfully Submitted,
Officer Alan Monaco #234
